Be An Advocate - Make Your Voice Matter
About six weeks ago a NESCO member approached me expressing her frustration with the health care system and wanting to do something about it. Agnes felt victimized by the system. Despite finding the lowest price for some essential dental work, she still had to pay a substantial out of pocket expense. After talking with a number of fellow seniors Agnes learned she was not alone and she found that Medicare does not and never has covered dental care for seniors. Agnes soon learned that communicating with local legislators is the first step to getting this change enacted and she sprung into action. She was told the best way to address this inequity would be to rally seniors in Madison, Dane County and throughout Wisconsin and demand that dental care be covered by Medicare. Now she needs you, her fellow seniors, to join her.
On 18 August a staff member from Congressman Mark Pocan's office will be at WPCRC from 10-11:30am to hear from those who have experienced physical or financial hardship, know someone who has, or are afraid you might in the future as a result of not having dental care provided by the Medicare system. Come learn how you can help advocate for dental care coverage to be part of Medicare.
Let's help Agnes reach her goal of having 75-100 seniors attend this meeting. Your determination to advocate for policies like dental care or hearing aid coverage will be essential in meeting the needs of the elderly population in the coming years.
